College keeps coming back to me
I’ve graduated in August yet once again, I have college news to tell here again.
Yesterday I got my first pay!
My ONLY pay.
RM30.00 yeah!!! LOL
For that sandcastle photographer job remember?
*+*+*
Went to college the other day to settle something with my head-of-school lecturer and he gave this to me. Like woah! The photo my sister took of me and my classmates at one of the college events is on the college’s newsletter. My sister was on the editorial team, writing articles and taking most of the photos. I’m really proud of her. Her photos are professional looking.
Notice the singing girl under the INTI logo. My sister took that shot and whilst everyone whom she showed thought it was boring, the designer of the newsletter thought it was great and used it twice in the newsletter. So she was sooo happy that her fave shot made it.

I remember when I first went to INTI to sign up. At the time I was kinda nervous, not knowing what to expect of my next 2.5 years in this place. I could only hope to get through college as best as I can. I never expected to be what I’ve become, LOL. Geez… Getting straight As for once in my life, being the top of my class, and most unexpectedly, making it onto our course brochure and newsletter cover. And I’m really happy for it. At least I can always remember college as the point in my life where I had the opportunity to do what I’ve never achieve before, to finally get that straight As results that I was never able to do before because of the Malay/Chinese language (whichever that would give me a B).
So now in two months I will be going to university. And here I am worrying about how I will survive there in a whole new environment. Will I fail? Be average? Stand out? Who will I meet? Will they be people I can form long term friendships with or people whom I will only bother with for the next 1.5 year?
And so here I am back at square one, right where I started before college.
My first job
I think I said I wouldn’t be working this holiday but my sister got me a job. Apparently sitting at home had caused me to rot and stink. My room started to have the er ambiance of a morgue. So my sister had to get me to do something, and what better than a job that requires running around, squatting, bending in all kinds of positions, just to take the ultimate photo. Yes my first job ever, was to be the photographer-of-the-day for INTI’s sandcastle competition. RM5 per hour. Arrived at the beach at 730 and stayed till 130. I guess that’s about RM30. Oh well… according to my sister, that’s a lot, seeing that they don’t pay her on her jobs, and they pay a more pro photographer from college at RM3 per hour.
Jobs
I haven’t been writing for a while now because during July and August I have been very busy with my final year project, course project and exam paper. Since finishing college then, I have been enjoying my free time with no appointments, to-dos and all that busy-ness.
So everyone asks “What are you going to do from now till February?” and “Are you going to get a job?”. The answer is nothing specific and no, I’m not getting a job. I thought about it and really, I have never had six months to do nothing. All the time it’s at longest a two month holiday which goes by so fast and then here we are at square one again, January and back to school. So for once I’d like to just stay at home and relax till I get so sick of doing nothing that I’d be excited for Australia in February. I can’t imagine when I’d ever get to have a pure six free months with no responsibilities ever again in my life! So until February, I’m just enjoying myself and staying at home.
So now time for some flashbacks to July and August. I had to attend an interview for DELL, made compulsory by the Head of School of my diploma program. My graduating classmates and I had no idea what job it was, and it turned out to be customer technical support service, mainly phone work. It involved a lot of hardware knowledge which I really lack. Nevertheless, we were all there already so we took the interviews. And I revealed my total cluelessness about hardware. Yet surprisingly they called me for a phone interview weeks later. More weeks later and I got a call telling me I got the job. It was a six month contract position so I rejected it, because by the end of six months I’d be in Australia having orientation already. Of course, there was also that desire to treasure my precious holidays too. Maybe next time. The job offered a really nice pay for someone of my standard, not out of college with a diploma and lack of knowledge for the field. Still…
On the same day I got that job offer, my Head of School offered me another job, to “model” for the college’s and Curtin’s brochures. So I said yes when he assured me my very good friend Selvia would be joining me, even though I was the first person he asked. So now it’s out.
At first I was so sad about my appearance on the brochure but well I accepted it after the many times of glancing at it whenever I enter the kitchen (because my dad pinned it to the fridge). So I guess it’s ok lah… could have taken a better picture of me but what the heck, as a whole it looks great and Selvia is so photogenic and pretty while Asma is so cute. Hopefully it’s just me being paranoid because I’m always paranoid about everything.

Academic Awards Presentation Ceremony
For good performances in the first two semesters of each year, I am awarded this certificate at the academic awards presentation ceremony.
Today was the fourth time I’ve attended to receive my cert, and sadly I would say although this is the best time I’ve dressed, I don’t have any nice pictures. Sad sad… Anyway here’s the collection of all the times I’ve attended. I started out looking like a fool but today I think I looked better
First time looking fresh out of high school.
Second time
Third time with the best picture
Fourth time
After studying in INTI for a few semesters, my sister finally could go up there to accept her Dean’s Honor Roll! She worked so hard and desired to get onto this list so much that she made it! I’m very proud of her.
Morning at Botanical Gardens
Welcome to another instalment in the photography club series!
I think 3 Sundays ago, the photo club went to the botanical gardens to visit the flower fair. Too bad the flower fair was postponed till August. Since we were already there, might as well take some photos right?
Sorry I don’t have time to edit the photos so these are straight from the camera.
That’s the photo club, btw, under the tree. =)
My sis and the club will most likely think the 3 pictures of the banana tree is very meaningless but I like it, especially the last one but mainly cos of the blue-and-blackness. And the sunlight shining through the leaves. That was a very sunny day and I love how the camera can make it look like its sunset!
Photo club member trying to catch a butterfly. I too was trying to capture it but was too far. Should have just lowered the camera and take him taking the butterfly. I think that would have been a nicer shot than this cut off one.
That’s my sis there.
That’s all for this instalment =)
Final semester
I’m doing my final semester right now. Only two subjects, 1 final examination paper and 2 projects. I’m trying to get the group project done as soon as possible. Anyway I got a new laptop Vostro1310. Am loving it.
Previous semester I’ve applied for 4 universities.
- University of Adelaide
- University of New South Wales
- University of Queensland
- Australian National University
