This blog better work out!

June 25, 2008 at 11:29 AM (Random)

Yes, I’ve had many blogs since I was 13 or 14. And I’ve shut down most of them since. The current and only standing one other than WordPress is my live space provided by Windows Live. I can no longer use it anymore, though it has its good features about it; mainly because my videos and photos do not show up in the blog posts. Now what is the point of having a blog if people can’t view your photos that is meant to further others’ understanding of your post?

So I’ve heard many good things about WordPress and after looking through its features, I find it really is a lot more blogpost-friendlier than other blog providers *coughblogspotcough*. Anyway I’ll try to transfer some of the better posts from Windows Live space to here, especially those with photographs or are more meaningful :)

I am already liking the size-adjustable writing space here.

Note: All posts prior to this were written in and transferred from my Windows Live Space blog.

Academic Awards Presentation Ceremony

June 24, 2008 at 11:14 PM (Academics, College, My past, Sister)

For good performances in the first two semesters of each year, I am awarded this certificate at the academic awards presentation ceremony.

Today was the fourth time I’ve attended to receive my cert, and sadly I would say although this is the best time I’ve dressed, I don’t have any nice pictures. Sad sad… Anyway here’s the collection of all the times I’ve attended. I started out looking like a fool but today I think I looked better :D

First time looking fresh out of high school.

Second time

Third time with the best picture :D

Fourth time

After studying in INTI for a few semesters,  my sister finally could go up there to accept her Dean’s Honor Roll! She worked so hard and desired to get onto this list so much that she made it! I’m very proud of her.

The Moffatts

June 22, 2008 at 10:23 PM (Music, My past) (, , , , )

[Note: This post used to be titled "Jonas Brothers of the late 1990s'" but due to its misleading and consequently disappointing nature, especially to the real fans of the JB, I decided to change it.]

I used to be crazy over boy bands when I was in primary school till about form 3 I think. There were the Backstreet Boys, Hanson, LFO, A1, Five, so on and so forth I can’t even remember them! Few minutes ago while surfing Youtube I suddenly was lead to this Canadian band I used to love so much in primary school called the Moffatts.

And suddenly I’m 10 again, lol! “I miss you like crazy” still sounds as how I remembered it but “The girl of my dreams” did not! It’s kinda surprising, to find the song sounding different from how I remembered it. There were so many links to their other songs and I can barely remember any of them. I guess over the years I have pretty much forgotten about them.

So now I’m just looking through some of the videos. Man, videos then looked really crappy and the songs were so kiddish! The teen boys of the late 1990s had long hair half dyed, while early 2000s it was all about the spikes; and now you gotta feel emo and have your hair cover half your face to look sad. Either that or be a pretty boy.

Kinda fun, going back to the good ol’ days. There were some funny comments about how people thought they were the Jonas Brothers when I’m sure back then they would have been only about 8 years old? Now I finally understand why people dislike boy bands, cos I am not particularly swayed by the Jonas Brothers’ songs. And although “When you look me in the eye” is still ok, it’s definitely not something I would like to listen to everyday over and over again.

Here’s the Moffatts at 14-15 (I was 10)

And at 16-17 or so. (I think I was 12)

So here’s the “Jonas Brothers’” of my time – The Moffatts with “I miss you like crazy” ( Damn I feel old!)

————————————————————————————–

[After watching their videos and reminiscing...]

Woah I’m so happy going back to all their old videos! I am starting to remember their songs. Reminisce the old favourite songs that I used to hear back to back on my cassette player [ancient technology]. Those days downloading music from the internet was probably the activities of aliens. So here I am going to display the videos of my top favourite songs by them. Excuse them for the disgusting video quality, it’s not their fault that technology wasn’t as advanced as it is today.

Bang Bang Boom (one of their last videos ever, if not the last)

I don’t want you to want me

Crazy (one of my very favourite)

If you only knew – Gil ft the Moffatts

Girl of my dreams (most favourite!)

Let the music heal your soul

Everyone should take a look at this video, cos the late 1990s boy band hand moves are just too much, the way they wear their shades are just painful to look at, Justin Timberlake still had maggi hair and Aaron Carter had baby voice. Just watch it.

Laptop skin

June 21, 2008 at 5:51 PM (Technology) (, , , , , , )

I mentioned in my Windows Live Space blog that I bought a new laptop – Dell Vostro 1310. It’s really powerful and lovely. All black so hopefully the palm areas don’t go dark grey like the silver Inspirons do after long term use.

The top of the laptop is glossy and easily scratched. In fact by now there are already quite a fair bit of scratches which I have no idea of how they came about, perhaps by the zipper when taking it in and out of my bag. So as a solution to protect my laptop from further scratches, I found this online.

It’s a removable laptop cover sticker and it’s sooo pretty! It’s about 19USD including shipping cost. It only accepts Paypal which I don’t have and have heard of many problems about it when it involves Malaysia. However, based on http://www.thepaypalblog.com/weblog/2007/09/paypal-introduc.html I think Paypal now works in Malaysia. Hopefully it’s true and I will be able to redraw money out of the account later on :D

Could this be the beautiful answer to my laptop surface problem?

[Update: Have paid for the skin. Now am just waiting for it to arrive.]

[Update: The skin arrived but I decided against using it after realizing my laptop's condition did not necessitate sticking the skin on. Maybe one day if my laptop is too badly scratched...]

Hunchback of Notre Dame

June 12, 2008 at 3:39 PM (Health, Random) (, , , , , , , )

My house must be full of dust cos yesterday I kept sneezing, had block nose and an itchy eye. A bit of rubbing while in bed and before I knew it, I felt my left eye swell. Checked it out in the mirror and damn… all swollen and red. I put in some eye drops and went to bed.

When I woke up…

I looked like this!

One eye big one eye small. It was so swollen I could barely open it. Thank goodness mom had frozen tea bags which helped. And luckily class was at 1pm so I managed to save the eye and make it to class. :) I’m alright now.

Morning at Botanical Gardens

June 11, 2008 at 3:48 PM (Arts, College, Nature, Photography, Sister) (, , , , , , , , )

Welcome to another instalment in the photography club series!

I think 3 Sundays ago, the photo club went to the botanical gardens to visit the flower fair. Too bad the flower fair was postponed till August. Since we were already there, might as well take some photos right?

Sorry I don’t have time to edit the photos so these are straight from the camera.

That’s the photo club, btw, under the tree. =)

My sis and the club will most likely think the 3 pictures of the banana tree is very meaningless but I like it, especially the last one but mainly cos of the blue-and-blackness. And the sunlight shining through the leaves. That was a very sunny day and I love how the camera can make it look like its sunset!

Final semester

June 10, 2008 at 7:09 PM (Academics, College, Future, University) (, , , )

I’m doing my final semester right now. Only two subjects, 1 final examination paper and 2 projects. I’m trying to get the group project done as soon as possible. Anyway I got a new laptop Vostro1310. Am loving it.

Previous semester I’ve applied for 4 universities.

  1. University of Adelaide
  2. University of New South Wales
  3. University of Queensland
  4. Australian National University
I’ve received offers from all four. In the end, I think I will choose Adelaide. It’s the one with the right course at only 1.5 years, whereas ANU is 3 years and the other two do not offer Software Engineering. Thank the Lord for all of His arrangements. I’m confident that He has arranged the best for me.

USA part 3

June 10, 2008 at 6:49 PM (Family, Photography, Sister, Travel) (, , , )

I’m so sorry I’ve ignored this part for so long. It’s been a month since I’ve returned from the US.

Frankly, I’m sure you all have already seen my photos of USA part 3 in Chicago on my Facebook. To just roughly outline the trip to Chicago, I’ll bullet point the things I did there cos honestly I’m tired now and am going to nap soon.

  • The Bean at the Millennium Park. This is just amazing! A big ass mirror to reflect the whole area. You can even walk under it and see all kinds of crazy self reflections. Many pics on Facebook for this.

P1010503

  • Freedom museum. Everything about the American rights to freedom and so on. I like this picture I took there. This section is on presidential elections. Actually there is a speech for guests to read on the stand, haha…

  • Delicious french breakfast at Au Bon Pain cafe.

P1010334

  • Navy Pier. This is really beautiful, especially during blue sky days like the ones we had, and I’m sure it’d be so romantic for couples to stroll down at night.

P1010342

P1010396

P1010355b

  • Architectural buildings around the city. There are so many by the way that they offer architecture cruise tours just to point them out. So I recommend this to Kay Tryn and Ying Xiang. Especially Kay Tryn, lol.

P1010375

P1010366

P1010384

  • Saw some random ah pek doing radio show. Mana tau this ah pek is former president of US Jimmy Carter! blek! So sorry he was reduced to just some ‘ah pek’ by foreign alien!

P1010563

  • Saw flowers. Pretty ones we don’t get here in Malaysia.

  • Pretty neighbourhood around Northwestern University in Chicago. 1hr away from city by subway.

P1010530

P1010531

  • Eating spaghetti with fingers. Cos I’m disgusting like that. :p No actually we went back to hotel early evening cos we fear for our lives at night. Too bad the tapau-ed spaghetti came with no cutlery. Just like the hotel room.

P1010464

  • Field museum (where they filmed Night at the Zoo) and this art institution’s museum.

P1010340

P1010577

P1010574

I have one pic of me standing there but it’s with my sis. Another with some scary tikis in a dark room. It felt damn freaky and frightening to stand next to those gigantic and real but dead animals. There were sooo many of them. All kinds of animals that you probably won’t see unless you go to South Africa. The tiki tiki were very geli also. My sis and I felt unsafe when going into the animal room ’cause we were the only people in that room at the time surrounded by wild animals, haha

  • Fake ice cream from hotel
